Movie Review – Kai Po Che

Kai-Po-Che-Theatrical-Trailer-362x482

Kai Po Che always had my attention. From the time that beautiful trailer came out. Then it’s entry into the Berlin film fest. Then the Blissful soundtrack. Then the movie released to some glowing reviews.

Based on Chaten Bhagat’s “The 3 Mistakes of My Life”, Kai Po Che is about  three friends – Ishaan, Omi and Govind, who open a Sport Shop-cum-cricket academy-cum-Tutorial for their living and face the challenges and problems that come with it. Best part of the screenplay was its simplicity and the way this heartwarming story & characters blended with the most important events events of early 2000’s ( Ind-Aus Tests, Gujarat Earthquake and Gujarat Riots).

Abhishek Kapoor made the movie right from his heart. You can see his love for the film and characters from the very first frame. The scene where the leads jump into the sea from the top of a fort left me breathless !! Take a Bow, Sir. Cinematography by Anay Goswamy is world class. Every frame was an absolute delight to watch. What can i say about music ? If there is any one after Rahman it has to be Amit Trivedi. Movie had three terrific songs and the BGM lifted the movie from scene to scene. Editing was Crisp.

Casting of the film was a knockout punch !! Raj Kumar Yadav was at his usual best. Amit Sadh who played Omi was brilliant. The way he maintained his emotion and innocence was worderful. But the guy who totally took me by surprise was Sushanth Singh. Confident, his ease, his presence…A total charmer. Brilliant debut.  Amrita Puri who played Sushanth’s sister and Love interest of Raj Kumar Yadav was cute. Her track with Raj Kumar Yadav was Adorable.

With a runtime of 126 mins Abhishek Kapoor’s “Kai Po Che” din’t have single dull moment. Movie builds slowly with consistent pace to an epic climax. Whatever the ticket price is, However busy you are… make time to watch this gem of a film… because nothing can beat the big fat smile it brings on your face. “Kai Po Che” is perfect on every level.

(P.S : I didn’t read “The 3 Mistakes of  My Life” )
